Internal Medicine Services
Veterinary Internal Medicine Specialists evaluate, diagnose and treat many forms of cancer and other complicated and uncommon conditions and diseases in your pet.
Our internal medicine services are provided by Dr. Claire M. Weigand, a board certified internist, and Dr. Amanda Gerard, who are specially trained to diagnose and treat your pet's internal problems, often with advanced medical equipment and medications (chemotherapy for instance) that are typically only found in a hospital like ours. With over 15 years of experience, Dr. Weigand has treated thousands of pets for cancer, liver and kidney conditions, urinary tract problems, gastrointestinal disorders, endocrine and metabolic diseases, pain management, and respiratory problems.
You should consider asking your regular veterinarian for a referral to our Internal Medicine Department when:
Your pet has received a cancer diagnosis
Your pet's disease is uncommon, chronic, or complicated (multiple diseases)
Your pet is not responding to current treatments for their condition or disease
Your pet's problem does not go away and is undiagnosed after standard testing
Your pet is suffering from chronic pain
Your pet needs more extensive diagnostics including imaging, ultrasound, endoscopy, biopsy or cytology
Your pet would benefit from 24-hour monitoring
Dr. Weigand is assisted by two highly trained and experienced Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVT). Dawn (pictured on the left with Suzanne on the right), who has been with VESH for 7 years, and who last year obtained her Veterinary Technician Specialty certification in Internal Medicine (VTS), and Suzanne, who joined VESH last year, have the special skills needed to assist Dr. Weigand in caring for and treating your pet.
